And, finally, we'd be able to assume complete control, to abandon our own bodies and "move in". A handy deathbed maneuver, that last one.

**

Especially for those occasional contingencies one has not calculated.

And Gillian found it quite useful too, though never having an original body.

Gillian started in my brain, long before she appeared on paper, when I read that some 70% of pregnancies begin as twins, and one ends up absorbing the other. What would happen, I wondered, if the "intellect" of the one being absorbed somehow survived?

Since Chris and I planned to have Phoenix become a recurring villain, before Shooter's Whim of Iron took a different turn (even tho he knew all along what we were up to), it seemed only logical to continue that original plan as part of ELSEWHEN--all the time looking, of course, for ways to put different spins on it.

Now that is a heroic, fierce, decisive Jean Grey.

She wants out of the super hero game, but when push comes to shove, she sacrifices for others.

Phoenix-Elaine's face saying "You know what I want!"...there's some nightmare fuel, right there.

It's definitely coming across that way. Cop-Phoenix and Elaine-Phoenix are very distinct from both Jean-Phoenix and Lilandra-Phoenix. I'm glad that this has been part of ELSEWHEN and seems like one of the major reasons to do this in the first place.

I knew that Phoenix was supposed to be this primal, raw, emotive creature, but I never got the sense of how immature/petulant she/it really was before now.  I guess the clues were always there, even way back in the late 70s-early 80s, but it never came across as having this level of "I want what I want when I want it" spoiled brattery.  Not to this extent, anyway.

Prior to ELSEWHEN, the Phoenix (dark) always seemed to come across as insane, unreasonable, and drunk on its own power, but this interpretation is shown as having no guardrails whatsoever.

Perhaps the Claremont version came across as more tempered (for absolute lack of a better word) because of the Jean Grey influence inside the thing.  But if this critter here really is the true, uncut version of the actual Phoenix-gone-bad (unforeseen potential Byrne-twist notwithstanding), then what we are witnessing here now is an enhanced take on the character that has heretofore gone unseen.
