Somebody had to say it.

A year ago I sat at my kitchen table building a LEGO model of Central Perk from FRIENDS and listening to our Nation being torn apart live on CNN.

A sure sign, among many, that madness is at deeply destructive play in America, is that Karl Rove published an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal giving the clarion call for his party to take responsibility:

>>
...on the anniversary of Jan. 6, I’m addressing squarely those Republicans who for a year have excused the actions of the rioters who stormed the Capitol, disrupted Congress as it received the Electoral College’s results, and violently attempted to overturn the election. [...]

If Democrats had done what some Trump supporters did on that violent Jan. 6, Republicans would have criticized them mercilessly and been right to do so. Republicans would have torched any high official who encouraged violence or stood mute while it was waged and been right to do so. Republicans would have demanded an investigation to find who was responsible for the violence and been right to do so.

To move beyond Jan. 6, 2021, we must put country ahead of party. [...] I’ve been a Republican my entire life, and believe in what the Republican Party, at its best, has represented for decades. There can be no soft-pedaling what happened and no absolution for those who planned, encouraged and aided the attempt to overthrow our democracy. Love of country demands nothing less. That’s true patriotism. <<

Without a hint of hyperbole, I can say it was as bad a day as the Republic has ever had.

It remains to be seen if we can recover.

Wasn't it one of the worst days in the history of the USA ?

My mom told me she was crying watching the events. Has anything really changed, or are we just sleep walking towards another one?

“Walking” seems optimistic.

Today, the sitting President of the United States in no uncertain terms rightly told his country, the world, and history itself, that the prior President of the United States is a threat to the nation.

Astonishing, just... astonishing.

Trump and the rest of the GOP are a threat to the USA. The current trajectory of the political right in America is why we are now being called a backsliding democracy.

I was thinking about this today and it seems (in my mind) to be a lot longer than just one year ago.  Anyone else feel that way?

In my opinion, this is about a year too late.

Imagine how I feel. I liked it better when we just celebrated my birthday on January 6. It will never be the same again... just a constant wound.
