Mr. Byrne-- On Action Comics 600 how was the breakdown of the lead story? Since if memory serves me, this was the first serious interaction of the two heroes post crisis. It was also fun to watch, how they played off of each other and Darkseid. I would have to believe it must have been fun for both of you playing in Kirby's sandbox.

George wasn’t too sanguine with my “revelation” that Kirby had “created” the Greek gods, but I talked him round to it!

As i recall, I did tight pencils on Superman and his characters, and loose on Diana and her crew.

Thank you Brian & Kevin. I appreciate it.

JB- That's interesting. I have in recent rereads wondered what the approach was to Action Comics #600. So it's fascinating to learn more now of how exactly it was handled.

Just getting a chance to post about this. Completely
gutting, although of course we knew it was coming. His
artwork was beyond amazing and the one time I met him he
was just the sweetest man.

I remember buying those DC digests sometimes solely for a great George Perez cover. DC really needed him at that point, at least for me to become a regular buyer again... I followed his Firestorm in the back of The Flash right off and he totally owns the Justice League forever for me.

…the sweetest man…

There’s George in a nutshell. Sweet, kind, full of life. And talent.

As Hamlet said, we shall not look upon his like again.

There’s no way I would have been interested in the X-Titans book. < id="protanopia"> < id="deuteranopia"> < id="tritanopia">

Any insight as to why Simonson signed on?

Walt has mentioned in interviews as soon as he heard “Darkseid” he wanted
it.

Thanks, Brian!
That was my first discovery of Mr. Simonson (I was blown away of course), my older brother knew of him from his Manhunter days.   < id="protanopia"> < id="deuteranopia"> < id="tritanopia">

That book was originally supposed to be X-Men/Legion, drawn by Dave Cockrum.  Then Teen Titans became a surprise fan favorite and DC's top direct-market title, so it was changed and Dave dropped out.

In honor of George Perez and his impact on so many
through his creations, (such as Starfire), I drew this
image and am donating the profits to the Hero Initiative.
Hero Initiative is the first federally recognized not-
for-profit organization dedicated to helping #comicbook
creators, #writers and #artists in need.
