So far the Electoral College has made it damn near impossile for a third party candidate to be viable. Ross Perot had nearly 20% of the popular vote in '92 but zero electoral votes. Florida would be very interesting in a Biden/DeSantis/Trump race.

Honest question: Will this clown's impeding arrest* this Tuesday help or hurt his 2024 aspirations?

*One of many I hope!

He's calling on people to rise up in protest over it but it's not like he will be taken off in cuffs or anything. Imagine if Biden went all drama queen and after getting a parking ticket called for supporters to shut things down over it? This level of stupid seems unsustainable never mind not in the least presidential.

Media will keep feeding on this inflated Mussolini wannabe though. :^(

He might well get a perp walk but it'll be late at night or before dawn, when there won't be mobs around Mar-a-Lago. There will be video, though.

And if any pro-Trump protesters get frisky, I doubt the cops will hold back the way they did on January 6... though their first round or two might be a rubber bullet.

Andrew,

No way something this big stays on the QT.

The media will be tipped and camped out. Someone is going to let this out of the bag.

Personally, I would love to see the mugshot and the front page of the NY media rags if/when does happen.

Trumf is a smorgasbord. His followers take what they want and ignore the rest.

The media are already camped out. Someone is there or close by 24/7-- it's too big a source of "breaking news" to ignore.
That said, I'm betting Bragg and others will want to minimize the odds of a huge mob being on site when they make this arrest. It's between wanting the publicity of that perp walk versus the threat that some angry Trumpists will attack the cops to "free their hero."
How to proceed is quite a decision to make.

It's easy to do when he tells them what they want to hear.

It’s fascinating that they hear what they want to hear. Most graphic example: nuns at his rallies. He’s “pro-life”, so they ignore the rest.

I would be aghast that evangelicals embraced this walking compilation of the seven deadly sins as "one of us," but their religion is deeply corrupted by a sense of persecution (over what, I have no idea) and white nationalism. They're about as easy for Trump to play as any possible audience he'd have; they're tailor made for his angry, racist pitch.

There's nothing Christian in that bunch.

None of them want to believe that Trump tells them things out of expediency. If it's convenient for him to throw a bone to the believers, he'll do it, but he won't take any big risks to push their agenda. Putting anti-abortion justices on the Supreme Court was easy--and he did it. Doing anything more complex or difficult than that? Nope.

Whenever I hear Christians whine about the “war” on their religion, I say “Congratulations, you won!”
