I think the CDC has a large faction that just keeps giving up. Can't beat 'em... so... maybe if we make pals with the people who won't listen anyway? No, you just embolden them, like letting a con man get away with his b.s. yet again, each con following gets bigger and bolder.
Where I am most people are still distancing and wearing masks indoors in public, many don't even need to be told. It's to protect the most vulnerable still among us, and they are still among us, so unless one knows they will never have any contact with frail elderly people or people with health issues...
Polio is making a strong comeback in the U.S. too. Thanks anti-vaccers; third world status within sight but without the excuses (although levels of corruption common to developing nations).

Some of the key passages in the article (to me) are...
"driven by a recognition that an estimated 95% of Americans 16 and older have acquired some level of immunity, either from being vaccinated or infected"
"the biggest education-related change is the end of the recommendation that schools do routine daily testing"
"The new recommendations prioritize keeping children in school as much as possible"
"the agency says quarantining at home is not necessary, but it urges those people to wear a high-quality mask for 10 days and get tested after five"
As vaccination rates of school age students has been particularly low in Canada as well as the U.S., especially the younger you go, this is essentially a giving up. Herd immunity either works for you or it doesn't, you're on your own at this point. Same as a Polio vaccine also became optional, or a matter of faith, where it used to be mandatory to attend school or enter the country.

There is a level of temporary immunity granted after contracting and surviving the virus. Somewhere between 14-60 days seems to be level of immunity and could be dependent upon the variant contracted. Therefore, if everyone on the planet got the virus at the same time Covid could conceivably become nonexistent all the survivors. Seems like one hell of a coordinated effort in a direction I’m not sure everyone is willing to take.
