To me it looks like a lot of Kirby pencils from the same period, especially the Super Powers ones.

"Kirby's Reed Face"

I think what many of us picture as Reed's face has as much
to do with Joe Sinnott's inks as it does with Jack's work,
no?

Any other examples of Kirby having Reed’s fingers stretch? I’m not familiar with every issue of FF 1-100, but don’t remember Mr. Fantastic stretching his fingers. That was the first thing that jumped out to me.

Found this, Eric.  I'm sure there are others though.

It looks like a lot of the late Kirby pencils in the Jack Kirby Collector. So I dug out some of my back issues and that piece is in issue 60, on page 27. There is a picture caption that says...

"Near the end of his career, Jack mainly did commission pieces like this one (referring to the pencils in question in this thread). Despite some figure distortions he still did some great work, like this issues cover on the following two pages."

This is the inked (by Mike Royer) and colored, cover done around the same time according to JKC.

The Kirby pencils for this cover appear on pages 28 & 29 in the issue.

Glad I could help.

It is interesting both the evolution of Kirby's style (over the decades) and the deterioration of his style towards the end. Especially when we look at how Mr. Byrne's work has, to my eye, not changed very much with age. We are lucky that we have so many Kirby Marvel books from the 1960s. And lucky that her was paired with many strong inkers (especially Sinnott, for me).

Yeah, that raised my eyebrow too, and it wasn't even
directed at me!

For me, Byrne's art got better over the years.  The latest work we've seen  - Elsewhen - ranks among his top work.

I think that Jonathan meant there has been no deterioration but it didn't come across that way.

Kirby certainly was not capable of putting out art anything like what he was able to earlier in his career.  I recall reading he had eye issues.  Still, you could see flashes of his skill, his dynamism, in his later work.

Yes, I was comparing the changes in Mr. Byrne’s work over my time reading his comics to the late Mr. Kirby’s. Sorry that wasn’t clear.

Sue and Reed look a bit distorted, but an effect maybe from drawing at such a large size...? Or planned as in Galactus' rays are doing something to them?
