As a kid, our decs went up pretty late - second or third week of December.
Before he died, my dad had got to the point where the decs went up
Christmas Eve.
I like to get them up on 1st December as it makes the house pretty.
We are a little earlier this year, just because I’ve been so annoyed with this
year & the lunacy of our government, so wanted to have something bright
to try to take my mind off that.
I know one person who puts up their decs in October & takes them down
ON Christmas Day - which I never understood. But this year she went on
holiday, missed her time of putting the decs up & so is not having any. Sod
what the kids want. Happy times in that household.

In my old house, I gave serious thought to having the artificial, fully decorated Xmas tree mounted on some kind of lift that would raise and lower it from a sealed room in the basement.I wonder what the people who eventually bought the house would have made of that?

If the opinion of a non-Christian matters, I would say that it makes sense to put up Xmas decorations on the first day of Advent (the fourth Sunday before Christmas) and then take them down on January 6, the Feast of the Epiphany, the 12th day of Christmas.

Your opinion is 100% welcome! Personally I would never put up decorations before December, so your suggestion seems on the early side to me.
At school when I was a child (context: I was baptised a Catholic, but my primary school was C of E and I am now a secular humanist with a fondness for Greek, Norse and Christian mythology), they would light an extra advent candle each Friday (I'm not sure exactly when they started, but I would presume it was four Fridays before we broke up for Christmas). I remember that when the first candle was lit it didn't feel at all Christmassy yet.
It's something of a capricious choice, but I feel the 12th December is the earliest I genuinely feel the Christmas vibes. Anything before that feels like a dry run to me. That said, I almost definitely will be cracking out some decorations either this weekend or next. I've managed to resist any Christmas songs so far this year.

Hallmark Channel starts their "Countdown to Christmas" movies in mid-October now. I also saw the first legitimate Christmas commercial (one about the fake tree that flips up) a week before Halloween...

Last weekend our local Wal-Mart took down half of it's Christmas sales displays to start putting up Valentines candy, plush dolls, etc.
Our local Lowe's also had a sell-off of it's Christmas decorations last week. Usually these places wait until December 26 before they do the deep discounts, but this is the first time I've seen them do it at least a week before Christmas.

I used to say that time seems to be accelerating in no small part because GQ—GENTLEMAN’S QUARTERLY—is published monthly. These earlier and earlier holiday sales are probably also a contributing factor!

Each December 1, she would roll it out of the closet, plug in the lights, and she was done. On January 2, she rolled it back in the closet.

I finally got the Byrne FF Omnibus Vol 1 this morning for Xmas!
I also got a collection of the FRIDAY FOSTER Sundays. I learned about the
strip in BACK ISSUE and was totally enthralled by the clips of art in the
article. The art is by Jorge Longarón and it is absolutely remarkable. I don’t
know what kind of access Giordano or Jansen or any of those guys
would’ve had to his work back then but man, he would’ve fit right in at
Continuity. It would’ve been amazing to see him ink Adams or Miller or
Byrne or Gil.

Never mind Christmas, "Black Friday" which was never a
thing in the U.K. until the last 15 years or so cos we
don't celebrate Thanksgiving now lasts all November!
Usually put our decorations up on the first convenient
weekend towards the end of November due to weather and our
work/shift patterns. But this year we have minimal
decorations up due to my wife having a shoulder operation
and me not having the time or patience to fully decorate a
tree. So it's outside lights across the front exterior of
the house, lights around the fireplace and a pre-lit
collapsible tree. It suits me fine!
