Did a little investigation on the story in question between the time I asked and your reply. Forgive my ignorance and thank you for the background info.

Just goes to show it pays to do your research, counselor!

There is a mentality at work, separating writers who grip strongly to the
characters they create and those who find it easy enough to create new
characters and move on.

JB’s approach has led to an uncountable number of great character
moments. You really never know, when you meet a new JB character, just
how big is this person’s role going to be? The only predictable part is that
your expectations will be messed with!

John, that makes complete sense, simply looking at the wide variety of
favorite characters listed by the small sampling of fans.
