Quick question that hopefully the community can answer:

What is John Byrne’s first solo-written, and penciled comic assignment, in an ongoing series that he stayed with for more than a few issues?

Read the question carefully, because it excludes a lot of different series, including those that were co-plotted.  And it excludes short stories or single issues.

I’ve been wading into john’s bibliography, but I can’t seem to get a clear answer to this question.

Fantastic Four, I would think. Excluding your
criteria, I can't recall a JB written series prior
to that.

What’s “more than a few?”

I would say the FANTASTIC FOUR.

Also, maybe it me this morning (that damn Streaks Across The Sky ) but am I reading more into this question than I should be?

If indeed it was FF—and I can’t remember any other candidate—that would be SO COOL!!!

I had my E-Mans at hand and checked them for Rog-2000, and I see Nic Cuti is credited for scripting.

Marvel Two-In-One #50 was a one off, though the series was continuing, so I guess that is off the table too.

If THIS is correct, it does indeed seem to be the FF run that fits the bill. Honestly, I had assumed that this was the case.

Fascinating!

Does the answer to my question change if we remove the “few” issues stipulation, Or change it to more than a single issue or story?

Still would be FF, but before his long run. Issues #220-221, the "Coke story".

There are 2 consecutive issues of CHARLTON BULLSEYE, but I believe that's a technicality because it's a story meant for DOOMSDAY +1 #7, and split into 2 issues.

But no matter how you slice it, his first full writing gigs at Marvel were all FF-related (MTIO#50, then "coke story", then the official run).
