That Cap 250 cover was heavily redrawn by Rubenstein, on Shooter’s orders.

I wanted to see the Surfer cover scan darkened a bit. Here are the results.

Ah, interesting to know; sorry if it dredges up unhappy associations. It's an iconic image, but it was toss up with either one of the Baron Blood covers. Wishing I'd picked one of those instead now...

They should have released actual Cap Pres buttons to go with that issue. I saw the original art and it loses some detail on the comic cover. They used it again later on some mini-comic. Would love to know what it looked like in pencil.

I bought the What If that followed it, great cover by I think Marie Severin on that.

These are my six. Had to make some tough decisions, and I kind of feel like the Omnibus cover is cheating, but that's OK!

JB - Once a piece of art was out of your hands and off to the inker, how closely did you follow it to see how the proccess is going or what changes were made?

Did it make a difference to you when you depending on whether you were the writer or "art robot"?

Also, did editors ever ask for your preference of inker, and how are inking assignments decided?

I don't know that I could narrow it down to six. Honestly, I would have to think about it awhile,  especially if the list was covering JB's entire career.

Very interesting question.

First of all, 6 covers isn't enough to cover JB's career, but there's also the question of whether you're picking iconic covers or covers that represent his entire career. IMO, those can be two very different lists. For iconic covers, you can probably fill a list just from JB's X-Men or FF runs alone.

I guess I'll go with the original post's definition of celebrating the career itself.

Here is my list- it represents JB's work with the 4 major companies he's been associated with (Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, IDW), his highest profile projects (X-Men, FF, Superman), his foray into creator-owned work (JBNM) and even his work with movie/TV properties (Star Trek).
