…since 9/11, and if anything our Nation has only gotten worse.

I guess I'll appear like a "grumpy old guy" myself but I'm struggling to come up with a list of ways America has improved since 2001.

Um... that shit decision Lawrence v. Texas was overruled.*

And, ah, uh, um... hmm.....

*Churns the stomach to think that the anti-gay laws the overruling kiboshed might come back under this Supreme Court.

Early that morning, I decided to stick with my usual 12-8 shift at the last minute and not go in early by taking the 8am express bus from Mill Basin. If I did, it would have dropped me off in front of the WTC at 8:45am.

I think you're right, JB. Things really have gotten worse.

Even as we honor those who died that day our nation is
more divided. So sad.

I remember being on this forum shocked, hurt and angry and I would never have guessed how the US would change in the decades after.

Growing up in the 90’s, there was a brief window of time in which I thought we were moving toward a better future, one where intolerance was an artifact of the past, where peace and equality were the future’s certainty.

Those illusions fell away along with the two towers.

Whenever I hear “peace on Earth” I think When was that?

The history of human life is one of conflict. Even when we speak of a society’s “Golden Age” we invariably mean for a select few, while the rest of the population struggles and fights.

Any sense that we are moving away from that is delusional.

I remember the discussion about the first IRON MAN movie, about moving the conflict from Southeast Asia to the Middle East.

Unfortunately, now his origin will never look dated!
