When my friend Ron was playing Scrooge in A CHRISTMAS CAROL at Ford’s Theatre I signed up for a White House tour. Sadly, I was underwhelmed. I could not stop thinking about the Truman renovations. “None of this is real.”Which was also what I was thinking in Ford’s.

The White House in most ways is a Ship of Theseus. Rather a bummer, yes. I mean, compared to how much of the original White Tower in London still remains -- bummer!

So when Jackie redecorated the White House, she was really only updating twenty years worth of decor?
*edited as I called her "Jackie O" which she was not known by yet.

When I visited the Tower of London one of my favorite moments was walking up to an outside wall and putting my hand on a stone that had been set in place by some Romans a few thousand years before.

The changes are still better than what the British did with the place.

Last year, I *finally* nailed down the (relative) spot in Lucca where Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus met (found in a book, confirmed by a historian friend of a friend). That was one of the most, I don't know, "moving", I guess, moments of my life.

"Ship of Theseus" over here we have "Trigger's Broom" from BBC comedy Only Fools and Horses. In it road sweeper Trigger (ironic nickname cos he's not too bright) claims to have used the same broom for 25 years despite it having numerous replacement heads and handles.
