Roger Stern told me about encountering a fan who went off on a rant about me, knowing Rog and I were friends.

Unfortunately for the fan, his complaint was too specific, and Roger pointed out that I could not have been at the Con the fan claimed, as it wasn’t MidOhioCon, the only Con I did, and in any case I hadn’t done ANY Cons for several years.

The guy went away angry and disappointed to find Rog defending me.

With too many of the "fans" it seems like the whole point is to have something to be butthurt about, and the facts don't really matter.

A million years ago - or maybe it was about 25 - I crawled out of bed and drove six hours to Ohio just to meet JB and shake his hand. I didn’t even bring anything for him to sign. I spent a few hours at the con, then drove the six hours back home, and had to get up early to go into work the next day.

I was maybe 20. It was a great experience, but 46-year-old me would sooner catch fire than to drive 12+ hours to spend a few hours at a comic con I was too poor to buy anything at.

In the past, these non-factual stories would remain very isolated. Now with internet...
