Even Doom is not so cruel that he
would do that to a child.

The way I read it, Doom had set up the plan so that Kristoff would take his
place. The catch was that he didn't plan for it to happen so soon.

The Kristoff brainwashing bothered me too.

I recall that Doom adopted Kristoff as a matter of personal honor (Kristoff's mother died under Doom's protection).

Even if I believed Doom were cruel enough to brainwash a child, I was shocked to see him break his code of honor.

I'm glad Mr. Byrne has set us straight on his intentions regarding that storyline.

Yeah, switching minds with Norman McArthur (and thus condemning McArthur to death) is one thing, but brainwashing an innocent boy he'd "adopted" (and was apparently grooming as a genuine heir, as opposed to "Doom, Jr.") is something else.

Doom's plan was to gather the molecules of his body from around the universe and transfer his mind back into his reconstructed body.  So even then, his plan wouldn't have condemned McArthur to death.  Of course, the Beyonder stuck his nose in before Doom could execute his plan ...
