There's a story about Paul Smith's reaction when Chris Claremont told him how old Rogue was supposed to be. I am afraid that I will botch up the story, so anyone who knows what I am talking about, could you tell it for the others?

Was it along the lines of "oops!"?

How old was Rogue supposed to be? And why would Smith have to be told? Couldn't he have looked at her previous appearances?

Just wondering out loud...

The way I heard the Paul Smith story is that he was looking at how she was drawn in the Avengers Annual while Claremont was telling him about the character's backstory.  Claremont said that Rouge was about 16, but Paul misheard him and thought he said sixty.

Smith's reaction was - No way is she older than 45.

Claremont replied - No, I said she was 16.

Smith's response - No way is she younger than 45.

But Paul Smith did draw Rogue younger looking compared to the MG art.

As did Dave Cockrum and Walt Simonson before him.

Wasn't Rogue in several issues of Dazzler before joining the X-Men.  I always thought one of her reasons for joining was thet Chris liked her and wanted her 'back'.

Laren told the story as I recall it.

Yes.

Rogue's second appearance was in "ROM The Spaceknight" #31, which had the exact same month and year as her first appearance in "Uncanny X-Men" #158 (as a villain, not joining the team, yet). Chronologically, the story in "ROM" takes place directly after "Avengers Annual" #10. Afterwards, Rogue made several appearances in "Dazzler."

I was always under the impression during her Dazzler appearances that she
was well into her 40s.

Sal Buscema and Joe Sinnott do a better job than Frank Springer and Vinnie
Colletta, but she still looks pretty old.

Dave Cockrum and Bob Wiacek do the best job yet, but I can't believe that a
teenager would go after Logan like that.
