The Go-Bots were awful -- the Transformers backwoods cousins. As a kid in the '80s, you always knew someone whose aunt messed up and got them a Go-Bot for Christmas.
The villain turns into a motorcycle? Really? Megatron became something technically smaller than his size but at least it was a menacing gun.
The names were uninspired: What's cooler? Optimus Prime or Leader-1.
I did like Crash-her, though.

because those projects somehow agreed with his beliefs. Many other projects that he was supposedly offered he turned down. We often assume that when we see an artist working on something obscure that they are never given any other offers. I don't think that was the case with Ditko.

I'll have to read up on him. I'd love to know what he was turning down... his beliefs allowed him draw the Avengers...
...so what the hell is he doing drawing those GoBot books? To my eyes, the quality of his GoBot art isn't great... and I like most of his work during the 80's & 90's.

Nathan, Ditko still produces comics. He is at issue 15 of his latest book titled, A DITKO. He also publishes essays about his feelings of the comics industry and fandom. This cover should give you a good idea of what to expect from his comic work. I am utterly fascinated by the man and read all his stuff. The art isn't highly detailed and the stories can be the same morality tale told over and over. But it gives you a good idea on what he thinks heroes should be. Of his essay/comic collections I would recommend AVENGING WORLD. It is stuff from a while back but offers great insight into his belief system.

I have no particular interest in either Go-Bots or Transformers, but in all fairness The Transformers had robots that transformed into tape cassettes.
Edit: Darn typos! I always see them right as I click "post." Grrr.

I thought the cassettes were a cool idea, though I think the first cartoon made them too powerful.

Ditko's views seem more than a bit silly and incredibly simplistic and disconnected from observable reality. Almost seems like a religion, in the refusal to look at anything outside the rigid belief structure. Faith can be a terrible thing.

If you read into what folks have written about Ditko's beliefs, I think you'll find that some of it was very practical in a business sense, and some of it... not so much. But it's Ditko's happiness at stake, and if he's happy, well good for him!
He and Kirby are fascinating to read about. Both full of awe-inspiring talent, but both having different reactions to the exploitation they suffered from, and the possibly poor business sense that kept them from being household names. Now with Kirby, you get the sense that he wanted that deserved respect... with Ditko, who the heck knows? He seems content doing what he's doing. you sure don't see him out and about complaining all the time like Alan Moore...
