I'm not understanding what we're looking at - it's
someone's individual page. Is one of these a swipe? Which
one?

That's why I was confused; the link took me to the wrong page.  This one works for me:

I was going to the wrong page, too. Yesterday I
spent time going over the page at the first link
and couldn't see anything JB related. Thanks for
the new link, Steve. As for the question of this
thread: I say it's bad inks. The artwork is
apparently done as part of an event called
Inktober, which, as I recall, is when artists do
one inked drawing for every day of the month.

Edited to note: The artist even notes the Phoenix
is a "reproduction" (I think he meant to use the
word "re-creation").

Yes, the page has changed.

"Reproducing" my signature, tho, even badly, still makes it a forgery.

I agree about the signature. I thought you were
asking if the guy was trying to pass off the
drawing as your art when you asked if it could be
bad inks.

Thanks for the new link! I was scrolling through a bunch of Japanese-influenced ink drawings...

Stupid of the inker person to put the signature on it, which is misleading. As Matt says, recreation would be a better description than reproduction.

Also a bit odd to be inking something that has already been inked, unless there's a pencil version floating around of this:

To play devil's advocate, since the guy didn't seem
to be suggesting it was actually your original
artwork on the site, he may have thought he was
giving a form of attribution to the artist he was
trying to recreate, but didn't think about how
tracing the signature is forgery. I think it was a
bad decision rather than anything of nefarious
intent.

A casual viewer of that piece would think that is purporting to be by JB.
