It can be disconcerting to note how long adult owl legs really are!

I really love owls. We went to a "family day" in DC and a local bird-rescue brought a number of them to show. Absolutely amazing what phenomenal hunters they are, able to find mice under inches of snow or hay.

One of nature's more adorable killers, to be sure.  I find it strange that, at age 50, I have never seen an owl in the wild.  I'm a fairly outdoorsy guy though I am also a city dweller.  Doesn't stop the coyotes, foxes, wild turkeys and any number of other critters from visiting from time to time.  Owls though, never a sighting.

Used to see owls fairly often in my former house, which, oddly enough, was more “urban” than where I am now.

Vividly recall one night shining a flashlight up into a tree, investigating noises aloft, and being greeted by a pair of Terminator eyes staring back.

Since I’ve been here, tho, I’ve seen only one owl, circling high overhead.
