Many of us here in Canada do it day-first as well.

As a Spanish interpreter, I frequently have to help Spanish speakers fill out forms.  When it comes to filling in dates, I remind them that here it's month/day/year.
Then I jokingly tell them: "The rest of the world is doing it wrong.  Only America is doing it the right way."

Back to my tale from when I used to buy American comics while we
went on holiday to the seaside, back in the ‘70s

There would be times when @ the end it would say ‘Next issue
available on such & such a date’, & I would be thinking ‘This thing only
comes out once a year?’

I was under 10 & had no idea that America wrote its dates using that
notation.

Forty plus years in the U S and A, and I’m still not used to the month-first dating.

early in my IT career i began using what i believed was metric dating: yyyymmdd in numeric fields on projects. all date functionality (this was for a life insurance company that relied heavily on dates and periods for interest and value/worth calculations for literally millions of clients) this made a VERY noticeable difference in the execution speed to do the required calculations. i have used that yyyymmdd format, when required, in all subsequent contracts/projects.

i no longer think of dates in month-first or day-first ... it's year-first for simplicity.

edited to add:
i'm sure everyone here is aware that to keep the calendar year accurate, one day is added every four years. there are 2 other "rules":
basically, if the year is divisible by 4, add Feb 29th, but if the year is divisible by 100, do NOT add Feb 29th, unless the year IS divisible by 400, then DO add Feb 29th ... and i think i calculated the next "rule" way back when: if the year IS divisible by 3200*, do NOT include Feb 29th!

*i can't remember the exact number, but it was very large !

A few people in my work have started using the month-first dating system.

That is calendar heresy in my book.

When I joined the Army last century, they taught me to write dates with a one or two-digit day, three-letter month abbreviation, and two or four-digit year: 2 DEC 2021, for example. When I took up genealogy as a hobby, the most accepted practice is day, month, year. So, I've been writing the day first for decades. Except at work (UPS), where it confuses the civilians.
