When I noticed as I entered professional situations that it was a struggle to minimize my 'likes' and 'umms' I experimented with just leaving a pause where I would usually be tempted to use them. End result turned out to be I came across as more thoughtful and people seemed to accept what I said as more reasoned and authoritative.  < id="protanopia"> < id="deuteranopia"> < id="tritanopia">

That's what most professional communication courses suggest doing rather
than using "non-words".

Yeah, everyone thinks you have to fill up all your time with as many words as possible. Give people time to take in what you're saying, and it gives the message more weight.   < id="protanopia"> < id="deuteranopia"> < id="tritanopia">
