I believe every region has the right to democratically separate from a bigger nation.

It's usually more natural when you have your own language or religion, however. In this case, it would be purely political, not even economical.

Even if the constitution doesn't grant that right, which means this would never happen, I wonder about the results of a potential referendum. Because I would assume at least 75% would vote "No" (I don't think MAGA fans are THAT mad to suddenly blindly follow this "instruction" from their leaders?).

One of Abraham Lincoln’s chief motivations for allowing America to be drawn into a civil war was protecting the Constitution. That document contains mechanisms by which new states can be brought into the Union, but nothing that allows established states to leave.

Apparently the governing body of Texas is choosing to ignore this. Question, then, is how far they are prepared to go.

If Texas Republicans finally decide to go this way, I wonder what Republicans outside Texas would have to say about it.

I mean, before this even happens, I guess the Republican party would force their Texas representatives to resign. Unless...

Unless it's all part of a big plan to create a new country that more Republican states would join. Can you imagine that?

Texas can't secede.   Its political pandering the same rumor pops up every
ten years or so.

From the article:

"In the 1869 case Texas v. White, the court held that individual states could
not unilaterally secede from the Union and that the acts of the insurgent
Texas Legislature — even if ratified by a majority of Texans — were
“absolutely null.”

The Civil War basically slammed the door shut on any state ever leaving
Texas would have to revolt and start a war. I lived in Texas a long time ago. If
you think the national platform and politics of the Republican party is crazy
Texas is miles ahead.

I'm not sure there is a can't, or hard 'rules' lately... not if they want desperately enough a redo for the Confederate States... like Hitler wanted a redo on WWI? Or a separate 'take care of our own' idealized fantasy Texas. Fanatics are the most motivated. They admire Trump because he doesn't give up or admit defeat... no matter what regardless of reality. That is the definition a fanatic. Reality is refusing to hit these people sufficiently and they will take every inch and stretch it to a mile. Beware those also selling any vision of perfection.

(cue the Foster & Lloyd song Texas In 1880)

Is there anything stopping Texas from being kicked out of the country?

Native Texan and lifelong Texas resident here. There are a lot of us here who think the Republican Party in this state is as crazy as you do. There are more Democrats here than I think a lot of the rest of the country may realize. 5.9 million Texans voted for Trump in 2020 while 5.2 million voted for Biden.

Thanks to the electoral college the closeness of that margin is irrelevant, but the point is there are a lot of us here that do not want to secede or get kicked out of the U.S. Texas is a red state but it has slowly been getting more blue, especially in Central Texas where I live. It is an uphill struggle, particularly since the Republicans recognize this and have been doing everything they can to stack the deck in their favor, from gerrymandering to restricting voting rights and more.

I like living here. My family is here and it is home. I don't want to leave, but recent events have left me considering that as a possibility. However I am not ready to give up on my state just yet.
