He can take it.  That's why they're heroes.

Truth to tell, of the elements that pushed me into my funk, one big one was the realization that I might have thrown Kurt down TOO deep a hole!

Wait...we are talking about the man who brought back Jean from the dead AND who wrote the " Trial of Reed Richards" AND who gave us the definitive origin of Logan. No sir...we all believe in you.. been believing in you since 1979.. X-Men 120. You got this.

Ridiculously good pages today!

Calling something good is not particularly useful feedback but the detail, the angles, the expressions....all.....brilliant!

Thanks JB!

You don’t know what—or who—is down that hole!

Just to pile on, these two last pages in Doom's lab with Kurt are absurdly great. The details and perspective have an organically wonderful vibe and credibility. Always wanted to ask... beyond laying out a perspective grid and filling in gadgetry as it comes to you, do you have an overall image in your head of the machinery / tech you're going to draw? And it looks to me like you drew all those lines freehand... freaking madman.

That tears it;  Byrne's a freakin' mutant.
No ordinary human can produce artwork like this.

Your cover's blown, mate.

In all seriousness ---  I remember back in the mid-80s when JRJR took over Uncanny...  and to me it kinda felt like he drew each issue in just about under an hour.  Not trying to slam him, because some of his work in later years is great.

But what I'm trying to reconcile is...  how in the world has JB managed to find the actual, physical time to produce such a copious amount of high-quality work?  It just doesn't seem like it makes any sense.

I've come to understand that that was one of the great Dave Cockrum's weaknesses, no disparagement intended ---  but he was challenged when it came to timetables and production value.  His first run on UXM was stellar, his second run not so much.

But any google search of Byrne's work will reveal mountains of jaw-dropping, Michelangelo-esque material, and it seems endless.  There's always some "new" piece that I hadn't yet seen that just floors me.

The dedication and attention to detail that it must've taken to render Doom's machine in this panel...   yeah.  It just doesn't make any sense.

Mutant.

I kind of read this twice, trying to see if I could imagine a distinction between Kurt's accent and Doom's.

This may be the coolest Nightcrawler story of all time.
