What are some successful books/properties (comics, strips, manga, graphic novels et.) with female leads?  Past or current.

Modesty Blaise is the one that sticks out to me.

Brenda Starr lasted from 1946 thru 2011 and had a favorite of mine, Ramona Fradon, doing it for the last 15 years of it's run.

“Lead” is a tricky term.

Lil Orphan Annie is one that comes to mind.                                               Blondie is one that falls into the grey area, since most strips follow Dagwood.

Batgirl, particularly the Batgirl of burnside, was successful a few years ago.

She-Hulk or Miss Marvel (now as Captain Marvel), you certainly already know about

and we had some great Spider-Woman séries.

In Manga Cutey Honey is great, Go Nagai is as always wonderful.

I suppose you can say Sailor Moon is very succesful.

in French/Belgian you have Yoko Tsuno or Natacha

How far afield do we want to go? BLONDIE has been mentioned. How about other humor strips like HAZEL? How about soaps like MARY WORTH?

And we must not forget MARY PERKINS ON STAGE, or THE HEART OF JULIET JONES.

Is there a reason no one has mentioned WONDER WOMAN?

BLONDIE is an example. Her name is the title, and she features prominently, but, as noted, the strip is really about Dagwood. MARY WORTH also gives us a title character who slips into a supporting role in the stories.

I have a fondness for Sheena, Queen of the Jungle, but I don't know how long her heyday lasted or how she compared in popularity to other heroines that followed her in the 1940s.

Of course, the Tanya Roberts movie decades later was...not good.  And I was offended years after that when they did a tv series and gave her the power to shapechange into jungle animals.

Guess I missed that one.

Glad I did!
