Probably, but it could easily be done again. DC sometimes links these two characters, as they both have divine magic as part of their origins/powers.

In her initial origin, the Amazons were very much born of Aphrodite (love) versus Mars/Ares (war).  And, of course, Ares was the chief villain in George Perez's reboot although Aphrodite was replaced by Athena as the most important goddess to the Amazon's creation, which somewhat subverted the love versus war theme (particularly when you consider Athena is the goddess of war).

…initial origin…

Now, there’s a phrase we don’t hear much outside of comics!

I think Perez's reboot with it's strong mythological ties was excellent. JB did a great take on the character, also. I think too often she has been written by writers assigned to the title who don't really have anything they want to do with her. Perez said he took the title because no one was interested in doing her reboot. And casual fans just see her as "female Superman" similar to how people don't notice the extreme differences between Shazam/CM and Superman.

When I took on WONDER WOMAN the editor told me hardly a week went by that some writer didn't come into his office to pitch a graphic novel. The pitch would always begin "So, Wonder Woman is raped. . . . "

It's appalling to me that anyone might suggest that in a DC comic book. You've mentioned before, JB, that a LOT of writers asked if they could have their hero be the one to "deflower" her--which is also disgusting--but the idea that the publisher would or should condone that kind of sexual violence against one of their oldest characters is beneath contempt.

The editor responded “Would you do that with Superman?”

If only more people had the presence of mind to ask such questions.
