I would probably say 2. I mean, Mater as a spy? It just doesn't work.

Oh, wait....

Speaking of the Pinto, during my last years in Calgary, I drove a Bobcat. Basically a Pinto with a nose job. Everything behind the grill was a Pinto.

As many of you probably know, Pintos were notorious for bursting into flame when struck from behind.* So one day I stopped at a light and the car behind tapped me on the rear bumper. I looked in the mirror and the driver had thrown his arms across his face!

When I left Calgary I gave the Bobcat to my Dad. He drove it for several years before passing it on to a friend’s teenage daughter. Who promptly totaled it.

______

* As the tale is told, Ford elected not to fix this flaw as paying off potential lawsuits would actually be cheaper!!

Sometimes us car owners don't realize how good we have it now.

There's a buddy of mine that told me a tale of his 70's vehicle's engine just randomly bursting into flames while driving it down the street in Brooklyn. He told it so non-chalantly - just seeing flames peeking out through the hood, calmly pulling over and shutting the engine, walking away and calling a cab to go back home. Meanwhile, my jaw was agape on the other side of the phone call, because that sounds like such a nightmare scenario to me - what if that happened in the middle of a busy highway with no shoulder or a bridge??

And speaking of Yugo, I remember an old Letterman bit where he announced that their newest model will be named the "Yugo Screwyourself".

My 1976 Oldmobile Starfire got stuck in it's parking spot once or twice winter 1985,86 when I was stationed at Wurtsmith AFB,MI when I was on active duty USAF so I traded it in for a 1986 Ford Escort and that was a brand new needless adventure.
