Very interesting to read about how the group was created. My brother had the original Alpha Flight issues in his X-Men stack, so they were on my radar for a while before they got their own title.

Awesome commission. Nightcrawler alone in this commission would make a fine piece of art; I love the way you've made the explosion of his teleportation look. The concentric waves across the picture and the backdrop of bad weather look really cool.
Sasquatch is the one character that my eyes don't play along with in b&w. Because there was a white version, my eyes always tell me that he is white... but with The Thing, for example, my mind says 'he is orange, not white'.
Interesting to hear about Shooter's nudges leading you to create Marina (I'm with you on the spelling) and Puck, and the background to the whole process of the Alphans' genesis.

Wow! An incredible commission and amazing rendering! I love it. Especially awesome are Sasquatch and Colossus! But really everything is great. I do miss the old way of doing Northstar and Aurora's hair, but I understand the new way is more accurate.I just love the old stylization. I'm sorry we won't be able to see this particular scene again. I know it's not easy to think of new and refreshing ways to depict it. But you certainly knock it out of the ballpark each and every time! Bravo.

When Alpha Flight number 1 came out, my friends and I were still in Marvel Comics discovery mode... that is we were still trying to figure out all the characters, even the major ones, and figure out what their back stories were. It was still a struggle to be able to name all the characters we would see in posters and promotional pieces.
When the bookstore in town hung up a promotional poster for Alpha Flight(In retrospect, I believe it was the same as the cover to Marvel Age number 2), My interest was sky high! I had just read another friends X-Men 121 back issue and didn't really understand why "bad guys" were getting their own book, but man it looked awesome. I never saw the subsequent appearances in Marvel Two in One or Machine Man or X-Men before this. Sometime later, I saw the actual Alpha Flight 1 at a local gas station and BEGGED my Dad to buy it for me. (Seeing the cover still had me thinking Alpha was "bad guys" in some way since Vindicator was pushing the heroes aside, but doing so in happy, almost playful manner was reassuring that they weren't actually bad)
Anyway, I was hooked and Alpha Flight became the first comic I collected month after month. Before that I would only pick up issues when I didn't have to worry about picking up a second part the next month since I was always worried I wouldn't be able to find it, But with Alpha Flight I had to have them all, no matter what it took.

Wonderful. I love all the tiny totems coming out of Shaman's medicine bag and getting bigger and bigger. And although I've heard the AF creation story many times, I don't remember hearing that Chris came up with the name. As with most things AF, you may not like it but I lvoe the name and always have. Seeing you say again that Stan, Jack and Steve didn't create AF therefore it's not real makes me chuckle. For me and I imagine a lot on here, any Marvel character not touched by you is equally 'not real' and your own creations are super-real to me. :)

Considering that this would be your final commission of that scene, I'm curious to see if the place where it was set still exists. With all the intervening years, I've seen places which seemed to have been around back when I was a boy practically disappear, such as Veterans' Stadium in Philadelphia and a number of venues which I used to frequent in my childhood years. Is the Stampede still out there? In the case where you're being asked to redraw the same scene dozens of times, I can agree that it comes to a point where you'd want to avoid it. Who knows how many "Calgary Stampede Brawl" scenes may have been done already?

As with most things AF, you may not like it but I lvoe the name and always have.•• Problem is, if you have a group called the Avengers, or the Defenders, or the Champions, or the Invaders, or the X-Men, or the Fantastic Four --- well, those are names that tell you something about the groups. "Alpha Flight" tells you nothing. Even "flight" is an affectation, since in this context it refers to a group FLYING together.

I liked it as well. Since AF was Canadian, I thought it was cool that it sounded different than the American teams.
