I really miss those characters, especially Thor.

Hmf.  And yet they won't do X-Men Hidden Years.

No love for Marvel from me.  They can go climb their thumbs.

Looks more like Bagley than Buscema although the Cap is unmistakably
Sal's.

This is utterly and completely off topic, but I'm doing an entry on my blog about fictional/science fictional sports (in honor of the olympics, y'know) and I'm trying to fond a shot/scan of the Kirby Captain America cover featuring Madball. I believe it was one of the issues leading up to the bicentennial.

If anyone knows of one I can link to, please let me know.

I looked through the Kirby Cap covers from that period, this was the only one I saw that looked remotely sports related, is this what you mean?

I'll be buying that one, Bill. No questions there. That is ultimate Marvel.

Michael: That's the one! For some reason I thought the sport was called Madball.

Thank you

Got it.  Pretty much worth it for the Sal Buscema cover alone.  I was a little bit disappointed with the interior.  I was hoping for more "screen shots" from actual comics ala the 1980s Handbooks instead of just the small figure drawings.  Also, I don't like not knowing who the artists are....is that really a Ditko Spider-Man or is that just someone doing a good Ditko impression?  There's also an awful lot of space devoted to characters I'm completely unfamiliar with and some glaring ommisions....Dr. Doom?  Galactus?  Spider-Man villains?

That's a Ditko Spider-Man.  From the cover of #8, I believe...whatever the "tribute to teen-agers" issue was.

Picked this up today and I was very pleased.  Granted, it would've been nice to have had, say, a Dr. Doom entry, but I was mostly picking it up for info on obscure '60s characters and I wasn't disappointed.  I also like how the entires end at "period appropriate" points, but you still get post-1969 info on the characters at the back of the book.  Great compromise!
