(1) You complain about things that "wouldn't work", applying "real world" physics.

(2) You fault a point in the latest issue because it contradicts something you read in an issue you bought new off the stands twenty years ago.

(3) You refer to superhero costumes as being made of "Spandex".

(4) When you are with your "civilian" friends, you make fun of superheroes whenever they do.

(5) You think superheroes saying "fuck" is "sophisticated".

(6) You think the characters should be at least as old as you are, and some a lot older.

(7) You wonder about the sex lives of the characters.

(8) You wonder about the sex lives of the creators.

(9) You never worry when the hero is in a "death trap" because you know the company has to come out with another issue next month, and anyway you read spoilers about three issues beyond this one in WIZARD

(10) You just don't get it.

Guess I'm still a kid at heart then...  thank goodness.  Only a very small part of that list I can say is me:  "You never worry when the hero is in a "death trap" because you know the company has to come out with another issue next month".  The rest, it's just comics.  :)

Great list though....

You have, unfortunately, described a large chunk of the audience with this, JB.

That sums it up pretty well.

I recently chatised a friend for writing a review of "V For Vendetta" and writing that the film was based on the "graphic novel."

It's a pet peeve of mine, but I call comic books "comic books" or "comics." I'm not ashamed of the term, and I don't think I should be. "Graphic novel" is an elitist term used by those in the media who don't know better, and by fans who are embarrassed to abmit that they still read comics.

"Graphic novels," used in describing comics smacks of the same pretentiousness that has people saying, "It is not a movie, my dear boy, it is a film!"

A rose...

Graphic Novel? Fuck that, it's a metaphysical narrative taking us through the creator's twisted dreamscape.

I know lots of civilians who think that "Graphic Novel" describes the contents of the book, meaning there is a lot of "graphic" nudity, language and violence.  I usually just say "comic book".

The only one I'm even remotely close to would be number 6. And while I don't disagree, it just seems weird to think I'm older than Superman, Batman or Spider-Man. Just seems strange to me. ( And no, I don't think characters should age like I do at all. I don't want heroes to change ages based on my feeling. Just making a statement, that's all.)

Ewwwwwww. Thanks for grossing me out there JB. I'm glad I'm not the type to start picturing things when they've been mentioned. If I was more suggestive maybe. But still. Ewwwwwww.

I pass all ten. I guess I like comics for what they are. At least when they're good.

hehehe that's a pretty good list.

(1) My old friend Jayson enjoyed "The Crow" movie when it came out, except for one part: the scene were Eric Draven finds the pair of boots in the dumpster "that would never happen" he said, totally serious.

"So the guy can come back from the dead, is virtually indestructable, is guided by a spirit crow... THAT you can accept, but NOT a pair of boots?????" says I

"Nope. you'd never find a nice pair of boots like that in a dumpster" :)

(2)  Thankfully, I have "Stan Lee memory" syndrome, so I'm rarely bothered by continuity glitches unless they are the size of a house.

(6) Batman will always be older and bigger than me!

As  teenager, I went through a phase of:

1 (physics) a little bit

2. a little bit (not 20 years but...)

3. I did refer to them sometimes as spandex because I just assumed they were

7.  A little bit, mostly with Mr. Fantastic, Flash  and Superman.

9. A little bit-beause that was the time of "nothing will ever be the same again" seemingly for every character and every six months.
