Did you do pencils on these, or was it straight to inks like the Dr. Strange job?

so does this count as a no background piece or a background piece?  Either way, it's gorgeous.

Only the backgrounds on the Strange piece were
done without pencils. Figures I always pencil first.

Almost always.

No backgrounds. Sometimes (Zatanna, f'rinstance) "props" are required.

And, ya know what's the best thing about these black and white pieces? Knowing they aren't going to be published with half the black lines -- like the missile trailes and explosions here -- knocked out in color!!

Ah, I misunderstood you.  Thanks for clarifying.  Either way, no pencils on those backgrounds is still pretty damn impressive!

There are currently 4 of the 11x17 pieces in which the backgrounds were done without any pencils beyond a perspective grid. Scott Green already "outed" me on the Hawkeye/ScarletWitch piece, since he saw me draw it. The others are the Strange/Mordo piece, the Havok/Polaris piece, and the (don't hate me!) Hellfire Queens piece.*

This is one of the best Sue Storms I have seen! I really like this version with the "andy" hair.
