Hey John, if you were given the opportunity to have carte blanche and reintroduce the Scarlet Witch to the Marvel Universe after this House of M fiasco, how would you do it?
Would she just show up somewhere innocent and without memory of the past, or would she be more manipulative and intentional (and darker)?

I was thinking the same thing - need to dig up the ol' AF collection. Then I began to wonder, "When will Marvel release the Essential Alpha Flight collection?"

Terrific piece! I, too, really appreciate the different facial features and bodies of the Scarlet WItch and Talisman. That is one of the things that makes JB's work special.

The thrill comes when I look at a piece like this and realize that a character created by li'l ol' me is on "equal footing" with a character created by Lee and Kirby. In other words, Talisman is just as "real" in the MU as Wanda, or the Hulk, or the Thing, or the X-Men ---- Now THAT'S a hoot and a half!
Also there is your contribution to defining already created Marvel characters. Like you say in your book 'Art of John Byrne' when you first started on the X-Men, you had decided to make Wolverine your character. You said Dave Cockrum had
focused on Nightcrawler as his favorite. Clearly in those begining X-Men issues you defined Wolverine into the star icon he is today. You can see his mask transform from the thin Cockrum version into the wider mask version that he is known for now. By X-Men 114-115 he has left the Cockrum version and become the definitive Wolverine, which is the Byrne Wolverine. The Marvel super star. This is just looking at him visually, not going into his powers which you and Claremont developed as well.
So then the argument could be made 'Would Wolverine have become a super star if John Byrne did not draw the X-Men?'
Or would he have melted into Marveldom and become a Marvel version of Timber Wolf or maybe an Irwin Hasen's Bobcat?

So then the argument could be made 'Would Wolverine have become a super star if John Byrne did not draw the X-Men?' *** Given that Chris and Dave wanted to write Wolverine out of the book, and only my wrapping myself in the flag saved him from oblivion --- mea culpa, mea culpa.

I remember a panel during the Cockrum run in which the Sentinels or Bolivar Trask scans Wolverine and comes up with a confused reading...I guess this was the set-up for his origin as a wolverine that had been mutated into a human being...!

Are you serious, Flavio? Did this idea ever show up again in other issues?
