I got a fair bit of mail (and, as I recall one negative review in a 'zine) chiding me for the "bad perspective" on the splash of this issue. Lesson learned: don't try to indicate great speed by showing something of the effect it might have on the surroundings.Great fun to be inked by Sinnott! As you can probably tell, the pencils on this issue were quite a bit tighter than what I had previously given him on FF. Oh, and that cover. The edge of the energy field was supposed to be held as negative space -- the drawing just stopped there. Shooter did not approve of such things, so that smear of pink (PINK?!?) had to be added to define the shape.

Love how you and Roger Stern took Thor out of the fight. Excellent stuff.

Say, Gerry - do you think you can post a side-by-side of the final two FF and Avengers pages? They had the same content more or less, but different inkers, so this would be interesting.
Oh, and whenever the FF/Avengers Annual crossover comes up, I hope you do the same :) (I've actually posted those myself here one time)

Loved this issue - great to see the comparisons.
JB, the cover looks a lot better without the pink.

Thanks, Gerry! I didnt realize until now that every panel was drawn completely differently - I had it in my head that overlays were utilized - ala the FF/Avengers Annual crossover.

Very interesting! So who scripted those last two pages as they are identical except for Thor's thoughts.
I know Sinnott is a legend and his work on FF and Spider-Man is untouchable. However, I really prefer Byrne's FF inks. The difference in Sue Storm on the last page(s) is demonstrative as well as Franklin's clothing as Sue is holding him. Sinnott tends to overpower whatever pencils he does, in this instance, leaving very little of the Byrne texture and line and replacing them with Sinnott's strong strokes.
Don't get me wrong, I like Sinnott, but I far prefer Byrne's own inks (or a more sympathic inker (Austin, Wiacek, Ordway).
