Doctor Strange: I'ld like very much to see this one. In the current "Your Picks for a Marvel Universe Re-Boot." thread my choice for this serie is you as artist/co-ploter and Len Wein as Co-Ploter/Scripter. Must buy.
Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD: Another serie that you should do. Must buy.
The Invaders (WW2): You co-ploter artist, Roger Stern co-ploter scripter. Must Buy.
Guardians of the Galaxy:  I'ld like it and would buy it.
Black Panther (bouncing between NY and Wakanda): Could be very interesting. Must buy.
Ka-Zar (in New York): Yes, but i hope we would see from time to time the savage land too. Though his life in New York opens interesting possibilities. I'ld buy it.
The Black Fox (a cheat, I know, but I have not done him in his own title): Could be interesting, I'll give it a try.

I've read rumors about the possibility of Jeff Loeb taking over for Joe Q as EIC of Marvel. I'm hoping this is JB's way of saying "stay tuned."

The ones that would interest me the most are Dr.Strange, Invaders, and SHIELD.

DOCTOR STRANGE
-- too much room for failure of the book from lack of readership.  I would hate to see you return to Marvel, have a book canceled even though it was good, and keep you from doing more work at Marvel.  DS has a long history, but it is problematic.

NICK FURY
-- similar problems as Dr Strange in a continued series - lack of wide appeal.  I think a mini-series left open for a 2nd mini-series would be a good approach to Nick Fury.

INVADERS (WW2)
-- you're going to run into HIDDEN YEARS editorial issues here.  Eventually creative conflict will arise where the WW2 version of a character will be in conflict with the current "let's make a movie" version of said character.  I'd hate to see you burned like that again.  BUT - this is a good fit for you.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY
-- Oh, I think we have a winner.  Though readership and sales may be a challenge - a solid GOTG title has been an empty hole for Marvel for a long time.  I enjoyed the 90s title but it became, well, too 90s.  Again - a mini-series approach with the first mini leading into a 2nd might work best to test the waters.  The characters are largely unknown BUT have links to many current characters.  Time travel, space epics, the power cosmic, mmmmmmm yummy.   In my mind, since the GOTG were featured in the Avengers Korvak story and in a geat MTIO time paradox story - I always figured them to be the Doctor Who of the Marvel U.  Popping around the galaxy through space and TIME - fixing things and having adventures -- YOU could have fun with this title.

BLACK PANTHER
-- you'd be wasted -- BP is boring.  He's a supporting character that Marvel has been trying for decades to develop into a leading character.  You'd get a solid 36 issues out of him and be bored on the last 24.  He's sort of like Wonder Woman as a character and a book - but not as interesting.  You would also be running into "let's make a movie" versions of the character and have editors up your ass.

KA-ZAR
Interesting -- tell some good Edgar Rice Burrough type stories.  BUT people would be comparing the title as a re-hash of Namor concepts when you bring Lord Plunder back to his billions and make him the billionare champion of a cause in NY.  Ka-Zar in the Savage Land would be too much like Grell's Warlord.  I think you could do a great job at developing this character - but the mini-series approach may be best here, too.

BLACK FOX
If Marvel would let you pull out all the stops -- this would be excellent.  He's tied to a MU long gone - so little continuity problems -- he's a new character with much room to explore and editors don't give a shit if the character flops and never develops.  You will catch a lot of Batman comparisons and people saying you're ripping of DC etc etc etc blah blah blah -- but BF could be a winner.  The other issue -- Marvel would probably NOT be behind you advertising the book since BF is not a staple MU character.

How About:
Hawkeye
Captain Mar-Vell (oh, you could put him in the GOTG team...)
Black Widow (tie Nick Fury stuff into it)
Alpha Flight: The Hidden Years (stories from before your book began)
The Defenders (covers the Dr Strange angle, Hulk, Namor Silver Surfer, mmm yummy)
Fantastic Four.

Doctor Strange- Love to see this. A Stern script would make this a must-not-miss!

Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD-  Another winner. Top-shelf title, here.

The Invaders (WW2) -
I don't have the affinity a lot of you have for this group, but knowing how much JB likes them and the era, I don't believe this would be a miss.

Guardians of the Galaxy- I've never liked this group, but, hey, it's JB. I'd buy it and probably enjoy it.

Black Panther (bouncing between NY and Wakanda)-
This would be cool. And it would get me buying Black Panther again.

Ka-Zar (in New York)-
Sounds really cool.

The Black Fox (a cheat, I know, but I have not done him in his own title)- Could be a dark horse hit for Marvel.

I know you specified things you haven't done, but my vote would be for Spider-man - similar approach or feel that the Fantastic Four "Back to Basics" run had.

(just to clarify, one where you write as well as draw)

Doctor Strange - I'd have to be won over. I'm a ridiculous Ditko-art-on-Dr. Strange snob.
Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD: Never thought of this one, but that could be cool.
The Invaders (WW2) : Would seem right up your alley.
Guardians of the Galaxy: I'm not a big fan of the team.
Black Panther (bouncing between NY and Wakanda): Never thought of this one either, but I know you could make it rock. The special appearances you could add with fellow Avengers would send it over the top.
Ka-Zar (in New York): Never been a big fan of this guy. I think you could really open my eyes to the possibilities though. I picture a male version of the She Hulk title with lots of guest stars.
The Black Fox: I would pick it up. I'm guessing you probably have a lots of untold tales to tell.

I'm sure any of these would be a hit. My top three picks would be Black Panther, Invaders, and Black Fox. I'd also throw Thor into the mix, just because you would knock it out of the park.

I am not really interested in any of those titles, if i had to choose i would go
with BP only because what the art would bring, drawing cities and jungles
would be some real eye candy. Not too mention i would like to have him
take on Spider-man, It would make for a fun read.

Q for JB: Among those teams and individuals listed, do you identify
more with one than another at the moment? Sure, you're a fan of
some particulars (such as the Invaders)--but is there any one that
you identify with the most right now? If so, why?

As for my immediate thoughts:

I am instantly drawn to the idea of you doing Guardians of the
Galaxy, but am also concerned that this team is just too obscure: I
think a choice bearing more recognition and familiarity is preferred.

I like the idea of Ka-zar also, but feel a similar problem exists with
him as you the GotG: low fan familiarity--you deserve to 'return' to
the Marvel fold with a stronger character.

I have no idea *what* is going on the with Black Panther, so I'm a
drawing a blank on this one. I'm sure your handling of him would be
great.

I love the Invaders. But if, as is commonly mentioned here, comics
are indeed for younger people (as well as the rest of us) then many
potential buyers may have a difficult time rationalizing buying a
WW2 comic--they live in a War on Terror/Drugs/Poverty/
Homelessness world.

Cutting to the chase, I'd like to see you on Dr. Strange. There is no
question the art would be great, but I think this is where your
handling of epic stories would be most challenged and satisfied.
Once you have inevitably infused into your own work the homages to
the greats that have worked on Dr. Strange in the past, I'm confident
that this series can become one of your great accomplishments.

Of course, there's always a return to Iron Fist. Just sayin'.

The Defenders

Doctor Strange
Silver Surfer
Sub Mariner
Hulk
Valkyrie
Nighthawk
Hellcat
Clea

Quite a bit to work with.

Ka-Zar is the only choice that doesn't completely thrill me. It seems you could cover a lot of the same ground in Black Panther...and I always thought that BP was a far more interesting character anyway.

When I read the list, Guardians of the Galaxy instantly fills my head with all the cool intergalactic ships and aliens I love so much about your art. Your Sci Fi stories are always entertaining and seem to come so naturally from you, and though I have never followed the Guardians, I always thought they had some cool visuals going.
