It's annoying that DC Direct keeps churning out wave after wave of stuff I don't want, yet something like the rainbow Hal set, which I would definitely buy, is something I can't have.

---

The re-use of the head sculpts gives me the feeling they will release a rainbow Hal set at retail with different heads.

I agree.

I think I've seen every single "exclusive" become available within a year at regular retail outlets (somewhere).

DC could offer them as one set of 5 and still the single box sets would be "SDCC Exclusives".  They could offer them as twin packs with another member of the colored corps, etc etc.

Be patient.

(Notice if you will, no S emblem on the belt buckle. Originally the costume
designer placed one there, but after he visited the offices as part of getting
ready for the role, Christopher Reeve insisted they remove it.)

And in the latest movie atrocity, the S buckle was in full bloom.

What do you attribute is the reason for Hollywood demanding an S belt buckle, JB? I mean, what's the aesthetic sense of it?

Welllll… Bryan Singer was quoted as saying he had the S put on the buckle because it was being left off the cape to make computer animation easier. Apparently he moved it from the back to the front so that there would be some representation of it on the front of the costume? If true, it suggests to me his eyes were focused too low.

I vaguely recall an interview with Richard Donner that indicated the suits wanted an 'S' on the buckle so they would have another possible piece of merchandise to sell to kids.

Biggest action figure EVER!!

Well, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Gundam anime franchise, they certainly know how to do it in style!  Pity they didn't build a life-size version of Char Azanable's MS-06S Zaku II as well.

Anybody got the SHOWCASE HAWKMAN action figure (question mark)

Its Kubert-inspired, no helmet wings, lean.

Kubert inspired, but from the pictures I have seen the helmet is… off.
One of the hardest things to capture is the way Joe drew the helmet as
a helmet, not a mask. The impression is that Katar is looking out under the
beak, not thru the eyes.

See -- the... "balance" seems off, somehow. Maybe its the thickness of the beak. Kubert drew it with a nice curve that would have allowed Katar to see under it. On the toy, he's clearly not looking out thru the eyes, but the thickness of the beak is blocking his line of sight!

The effect was most clearly in evidence (and this is probably why it stuck in my head) on the cover of his first B&B appearance…
