Great piece J.B.
Just a question which came out first This issue or the crisis cover where Mr. Perez had Superman holding Supergirl?

This pose has become such an icon in comics history. It envokes such emotion

•••

The CRISIS cover was dated October, 1985. This X-MEN cover was dated August, 1980.

However, George has long maintained that it was this THOR cover that served as his inspiration.

This is probably the closest I've seen to a "Byrne Pieta".

After all these years, what I still find most striking is Cyclops' leg length. Truly heroic proportions in the "How to Draw the Marvel Way" style. I suppose that the particular choice of leg proportion was dictated by how much of Cyclops' body was occluded. That being said, I find JB heroes more heroic with more leg.

I might be weird that way.

So when is the Detective 27 recreation coming out, again?

Um John?

I thought you were only going to be doing one cover recreation each?

Remember this one back afew years back completed on April 1?

The only difference is the logo and the faces on the side.

And that's the technicality, JP. Which is why I will be
including the logo on all cover recreations from now
on.

Excellent!

Regarding your comments on Wolverine: he hasn't been nearly as intersting since you left that book. Logan is a case of a character being appealing because of the limits of how much we knew about him.

How weird is it, John, retracing your old steps on these?

There must be moments where you shake your head thinking, "I can't believe I used to do 'thingamies' this way!"

Or even urges to revisit the piece or sections of it as you would now!

There are only so many ways to show someone carrying an unconscious/lifeless body front on!

Yes. Working on this piece, I was thinking that maybe my next "reimagining" would be of this cover, to play with just that.
