I've always liked the optical illusion or effect of the drawn design of tartan
cloth such as Prof. X's covering his legs. The lines don't respect the
rumpling in the cloth, yet the whole effect tricks the eye into imagining
they do.

John, Not as dramatic a shot. With the angle you used takes me out of the actions and more of an observer. With the first drawning I felt like I was in Cyclop's place with this one I feel more like one of the back ground figures. This is a great example of how directing the seen can really affect the emotions of the readers. I like that you can see more of a background in this image it's makes the image more pedestrian, more realistic to me.
John I want to ask a question about Storm's position. But I don't quite know how to say it. Having her back to our view, artistically the cape looks interesting but I don't know It feels almost like it's hiding her .If that makes sense. I'd like to know why did you choose that position for her ?

It feels like a behind the scenes shot.

JB,
Very powerful light source to give it additional emotion...
the positioning of cyclops and jean at the bottom right is also strong... the reading eye moves thru the picture to the climax... very nice...
what is professor x stretching to, or holding onto?

Wow!
JB, if you ever find a moment to amuse yourself... could you try to do the same with the cover of FF # 286... "Like a Phoenix"??

Great approach, but I think the original puts more focus on Phoenix/Cyclops instead of the whole team, therefore more iconic like you said.
Cheers!

By the way...
JB, Is the house of the Grey family a real house? You seems to know it perfectly!

Wow! This is really cool. I love the classic X-Men covers, but it is great to see you revisit them and try new things.
