Today begins Week 5 of the diet plan I mentioned I was going onto 4 weeks ago. Gotta say, very successful! My thread title refers to the 20 lbs, or 9 kilos that I have dropped since I started, all without pain and suffering. Just good food, small portions.

So, YAY!

Wow...congrats! I was thinking this week that I'd like to drop 15-20 myself...and 5 weeks sounds like a reasonable time frame. Perhaps I shall go that route!

Though I recall one of your no-nos - eating late, before going to bed...that's one of my weaknesses.

Way to go!

Sounds like you are taking the right approach. Starvation diets or diets that make you miserable aren't going to last. As cliched as it sounds, moderation truly is the key.

This diet is "professional", Vinny. They deliver food every day, five meals and two snacks. And one of the important elements is to eat every 4 or 5 hours, including an hour before hitting the sack. That regulates the blood sugars better.

The central key element, of course, is those small portions. Grand total of 1800 calories per day.

Way to go, JB!

I've often touted your other "diet plan" that you gave a few years ago.
(You happened to mention it on the same day that Steven Grant gave very
similar advice about dieting, so I refer to it as the "Comics Writer Diet.")
Basically "watch what you eat, small portions, don't eat after dinner."

Conciously following your advice I dropped 10 pounds in a month and
another 10 over the next couple of months.

I however have stayed at a plateau for a couple of years, and have tried to
lose another 15 pounds to no avail. I just might need to take this a little
more seriously and take the next step of cutting specific foods out of my
diet. A friend of mine did this recently and he literally looks like a
different person, maybe a skinnier brother.

I started a diet a couple of weeks ago. Have cut out a lot of my favorites, eating more salad, less red meat, more grilled chicken, tuna, yogurt.

Lost 40 pounds after my accident last year, and have managed to gain it all back plus 10 pounds. I'm at my heaviest ever right now, and I hate it. Have to get my girlish figure back.

Is there a link to these guys?

No, I don´t think they´d deliver overseas, just curious to find out as much as I can about the diet...

The inspiration for this particular diet was the "gaining it back" phenomenon -- this time with "old guy" added in.

Usually, when I have gained weight, I have done it fairly evenly, sort of all over. Most of my adult life I have been the living embodiment of the ol' National Lampoon definition of "barrel chested" -- fat, with good posture.

A few years back I slimmed down to the lightest I had been in a decade or more, but after my move into the new house, I packed it back on fairly fast (no real stairs, nowhere to take regular walks -- plus a killer chocolate cake discovered at the Food Emporium) -- only this time I gained it like a fat old guy. I'll spare you the details, but let's just say it's hard shaving in the dark so I don't have to see myself in the mirror. Still "carried it well", so people were quite surprised when I mentioned how much I weighed -- but, as a wise man said, enough is too much!

Hence, this latest diet. Planning to stay on this one pretty much indefinitely.

Congrats, JB!

I know full well how difficult it is to maintain a diet.  I may be a lifetime Weight Watcher member, I'm currently way off program.  So anyone who succeeds deserves to be congratulated.
