It would be nice to have Barbara Gordon back as Batgirl. Unfortunately, she's all grown up now...
-------------------
She could simply become Batwoman :-) Now quick, someone needs to find a Lazerus pit to throw her into

Barbara Gordon is still very much alive, well and a vital part of the D.C. Universe. She may not be Batgirl any longer, but she's still a great character as Oracle.
Or at least, she was during Gail Simone's great run on Birds of Prey. We'll see what this new creative team has planned.

Oracle, like so many others, is an example of what might have been an interesting idea if the powers that be had gone to the trouble of creating a new character instead of mutilating an existing one.

Your definition of "well" must be different from mine!

That's not to say I agreed with the decision to cripple her - I didn't. But given those circumstances, the creative teams on Birds of Prey have done a great job of making her an interesting character.
Maybe it's a case of taking lemons and making lemonade, but Barbara is still doing quite well for herself and I've enjoyed reading about her adventures as Oracle.

I think Oracle is interesting but agree it would have been a better idea to create a completely new character.
Its strange, but it seams like Batgirl became more popular once Barbara was paralyzed. So DC keeps finding ways to plug Batgirl into other titles using flashbacks, alternate realities, other people donning the classic costume, yet DC falls short of bring back Barbara as Batgirl. I think its because Oracle is one of the few handicapped individuals in comics and they don't want to loose that.

Ooops. I got so caught up in complaining about other writers a few posts back that I forgot to say the commission looks great, JB.

That's a gorgeous picture, JB!
You should pitch a Batgirl mini-series to DC.

Another great JB product!!
I will always disagree with the killing, maiming, and arbitrary replacing of characters, particularly those of the Golden and Silver Ages. Still, I have to admit that in the years between Crisis and Killing Joke, Batgirl was relegated to third or fourth banana status. Crippling her drew the wrong kind of attention to her, but it certainly opened the door to making her a more interesting and integral character in the overall DC Universe. If only she hadn't had to have taken a bullet before someone decided to rescue her from comicbook limbo.

I have mixed feelings about Oracle. Love the concept; but never ever could get used to the fact that it was my Batgirl that HE did this to

They should've kept Batgirl intact; what they did to Barbara Gordon was
bad then and it still is. Wish someone had found a better way to make
the character interesting as Batgirl at that time.
Beautiful pose BTW, JB!

Why haven't they restored Barbara? In a world of endless possibilities how can she still be a cripple? Hell, any number of Crisises, Zero Hours or endless summer crossovers could easily wipe the Killing Joke out of continuity.
