"Fixing" a character is not turning that character into someone else.
However, in defense of the creators of Oracle, they at least made the best out of a bad situation. Alan Moore basically maimed Barbara Gordon for shock value.
Granted, this is comics and it would be easy enough to "fix" Barbara Gordon, similar to how Bruce Wayne was "fixed."
And didn't the Cassandra Cain Batgirl go all evil? This doesn't seem to be a means of attracting girls to comics. Cassie Sandmark went from the awkward pre-teen to whom many girls could relate to the Maxim covergirl to which no girl could really relate (though many boys could drool over).
