Incidentally, my "model" for Heather was Lisa Blount, an actor I felt did not
get as much work as she deserved.
Notice that the first thing to disappear, btw, when I left the book, was
Heather's distinctive nose.

Last night, I was thinking of plotlines for AF.
New ones. I was supposed to be sleeping, but I
had visions of Box, Guardian, Heather, etc.

As much as I HATE to admit it, Guardian's death really strengthened characters like Heather and Judd, so much so that Heather was/is my favorite supporting (non-powered) characters in all of comics and Puck is right up there as one of the best things to come out of this book.
A very haunting opening story. Maybe the best representation of Northstar's character in those few panels on page 4.

I remember thinking that Puck and Heather might get together, and that Heather might become the new Guardian (when that cover comes up; was that the next issue?) . . . but then realizing that that *wasn't* going to happen because JB was going to take us off into a new direction.
"I wonder what is going to happen instead . . ?" was and is what keeps me coming back to JB's work.

I love the way all of the black clothing in the dream sequence form a single entity.
no definition, yet you have no trubbs figgin it out.

Another amazing issue. It's a fast, gripping, emotional read, despite the fact that not much really happens in terms of action.
The dream sequence is particularly effective. By this point, the characters have been defined enough so that you can practically "hear" the dialogue, even though there isn't any. It's a classic example of a silent sequence.

I know it's part of a dream sequence, but for Jean-Paul to just take off like that rather than deal with the situation is so like him.

Awesome stuff, the words fail me. I cannot describe what these comics mean to me and how they bring me back to a time when things were simple, better, and my father was still alive.
I recall him asking me, one day, what it is about these things and discovering that he had tried a couple the night before, evidenced by the slight disarray to my pile. He slightly damaged this book.
Now I wish I kept it.

Well, that brings up something I always wondered about - did the early portion of the dream sequence actually happen as shown, or was that all strictly Heather's imagination?
