It seems a departure from the "Starfish" model, however. It is more Kirbyish
in the sense that the major joints like shoulders and knees and masses like
the pectorals don't disappear under the "dinosaur" plates.
••
The "starfish" model refers to how, spreadeagled, he would look sort of like
a starfish. The joint articulations remain roughly spherical.

Does it take you longer than usual to draw/ink the Thing, JB? Have you been
doing it so long that it really isn't an issue?
••
I've drawn the Thing enough times that I don't have to put too much
conscious thought into the plate patterns -- gets kinda "zen", as noted
upthread -- but it still takes a while to drawn. (Jim won't let me tell you
how long pieces take, because of the idiots who associate time on a piece
with quality, ignoring factors like, you know, time on the Job -- but
something like this takes less time than a full page, more time than a single
panel.)

JB: any particular thinking that caused you to introduce more visible
anatomy (for example, those big circular pecs)?
••
Anatomical features come and go depending on the shot. This one, for
instance, suggested four spherical forms across the top of the torso,
shoulders and pecs, so that's what I drew!

Thanks, JB. You answered both the question written and what I was trying to say, that is, does a Thing single figure take more time than other single figures.
My bad, but thanks again.

few artists can draw Ben Grimm as well as you do, JB! Wish you
could revive Marvel Two-In-One so we could get a monthly dose
of the ever-lovin', blue-eyed Thing!!!
