This is 20 x 30? .... I can't save money fast enough for a commission. I don't know if anyone else has this feeling, but even though it is a picture of the Hulk and several defeated foes, I can easily picture, based on the visual information, basically how each villian was taken out. There is story telling even in what amounts to a single panel.

Hulk is by no means one of my favorite characters, but this is my favorite commission you've ever done! I love it! Textures freakin' everywhere!

The Hulk is by every means my favorite character and I can't help but place this at the top of my list of favorite JB commissions. Even if it didn't feature the Hulk, the quality and detail of art--at least to my eye--is superior to even the better ones I've seen.

I'd also like to add that this Hulk commission does seem to be something beyond the skills of 70's or 80's JB, as JB himself comments from time to time. I don't agree with this assessment on every commission, but I certainly do with this one.

Y'know, it's another indication, I think, of how comics have changed -- and
not for the better -- that when I first took on the Hulk's own title, I came up
with a story arc that would allow me to morph him into the Kirby-style form
I preferred. Today, artists come on books and immediately change the
characters to look however they feel like drawing them. The notion of
staying "on model" has largely gone the way of the Dodo.
How did the Hulk get off-model (i.e. not Kirby-ish) in the first place? The change happened during the years when characters were supposed to be drawn "on model." Was it the TV show that made artists play down the big brow and and give the Hulk longer hair?

Staying on model would require a professional attitude, and a respectful acknowledgement of previous work, both quite absent in comics nowadays (sigh).

What kind of timeframe was it from the demise of his own mag until he started appearing in (was it) TALES TO ASTONISH?
