Great commission, JB - Kirby would be proud that you haven't chosen to
alter the design of Johnny in flame mode as many of the current artists
have.

I still prefer the lines. The others just look like the flames are consuming him.
I still think you draw the best flame trail of anyone!

The way Carl Burgos designed and drew the Human Torch, I always thought of all those little lines as a shorthand for the rushing flames surrounding the Torch's figure. When Kirby did his version, it seemed to be the same thing, but done more abstract in Kirby fashion. I never really thought of it as there being all these little lines on the Torch, so when current artists started to draw the character as being realistically engulfed in flames, I had no real problem with it. The only thing is that I like how Torch's hair used to disappear like it had melded into the flame when he turned on his power.
