Man, I wish you had drawn Juggernaut when you were on the book. Especially now. Nice piece.

With all due respect to Dave Cockrum, but JB's is better. Wow.

••

Not sure there is a "better" here. Dave was working to the restrictions of a cover -- had to design his piece with about one third of it dead, across the top. As a result, Dave's drawing would not make a very good "pin-up".

On the flip side, I did not have the restrictions of working around a logo, so I was able to fill up the whole page -- which means my piece would not make a very good cover!

Good points, but I'm betting without the logo, it's still identifiable as UXM. The important thing is Dave was working within the constraints of the job requirements.  How many covers have you seen where the artist didn't, and the logo obliterates a relevant part of the artwork?

I like the claustophobic vibe, on account of the bunching of characters and their proximity to the 'viewer'. It creates a distinct mood of tension (reflected by Storm)... well done!

JB: And the fun part about that was that you did not have to have both issues in order to get the story. Nightcrawler was making a guest appearance in SPIDER-MAN, as you note, not appearing as part of a crossover.

I wish they would do stories like that again. I hate it when they do for the second part of this story you need to pick up this book that you don't normally read. Tell me a complete story in the book about the character I like. If you do it well enough and sell me on how interesting this other character is then I might pick up the other book. Which is how I got interested in the Xmen.

Amen, Bob!  Worst of all is when the book you enjoy contains only a middle chapter of a wider-crossover.

_______________

Brian, JB did draw Juggie and Black Tom albeit briefly at the end of #122 if memory serves me correctly.

JB great cover..Did Dave think that little of Logan that he hardly ever put him on the covers? Today it would be Logan on the cover going toe to toe with Juggernaut while the rest of the X-Men cowered around
