Nobody draws The Thing as well as JB.  A great idea for a commission and an awesome visualization of that idea.  Happy New Year indeed.

They're looking at an ancient species that lives BELOW the Mole Man, come to take back what they feel is rightfully theirs, and, using the Mole Man's expertise with the surface dwellers, (offering him power, and seemingly disposing of him by tossing him into Molten Rock after he outlived his worth), targeted ANYTHING FF related. The 'M' on Franklin's jumper stands for "Mate", and Ben broke him out right before the fatal mating process was to take place with the Queen.

What a great commission!  I've always loved that X-Man cover that this was based on.  You could have a whole line of commissions based on that cover alone.
JB, were you the first to come up with this style comic cover (i.e. heroes standing strong w/wanted poster in background) that you know of?  It's such an iconic cover.  Fun commission.  Thanks.

That puts the kibosh on my idea that the "M" on the recently freed Franlkin's inmate uniform labels him as a mutant.

Love it -- 'cept it must be ANOTHER alternate future since:

('course, Ben and Logan could be working together and faked Ben's death...)

Why do you say that Ian?  It stirkes me as the same future, just at some point before the panel you showed.

Fun to compare to the original. I like how you've used the crosshatching to delineate where the spotlight falls/ doesn't fall. The original looks to me like Terry Austin used duotone. I also like how you've made Franklin look so thin and mature.

Is Franklin wearing the same outfit that Kitty was wearing?  Is it a P.O.W. thing that mutants had to wear(I know, the giant "M" is sort of obvious)?

I'm just glad that She-Hulk isn't clearly depicted as RIP.  She may be up there but it isn't for sure.

Great work, JB.  For some reason this piece "works" where so many of the other homages just fall flat.
