Congratulations Steve! Very cool idea. Did you request the lettering?

I wonder if, as Ben gets older, he knows that his body will or wont be able to take the strain of transformation?

Irony being that he'd rather STAY the monster rather than wither.

JB, were you the first to come up with this style comic cover (i.e. heroes standing strong w/wanted poster in background) that you know of? It's such an iconic cover.

••

Something in my dim lizard brain insists it was from a sketch by Ed Hannigan. Wasn't my idea, in any case.

Didn't it start with that Iron Fist splash page?

I'm just glad that She-Hulk isn't clearly depicted as RIP. She may be up there but it isn't for sure.

••

I put myself into the time and place when the original was done, when I designed this. And, of course, Jen had not become a member of the FF at that point, so I decided not to make the image "predictive".

If by "lettering" you mean the logo, yes, I requested that.

JB, when you did this comission, and when you did the original X-Men cover, was there any rhyme or reason to who was "slain" and who was "apprehended"?

••

In those glorious days of yore, when books did not have to be promoted three or four months before they went on sale, it was actually possible to do the covers AFTER the interiors were completed. Often, a month or more after!

In this case, since I plotted this storyline, I figured out who I wanted alive and who I wanted dead, and that was reflected on the cover. As to the WHY of who lived and who died, it came down to who best served the story I wanted to tell.

In the case of this cover, since Steve wanted Ben solo, I figured that meant the rest of the FF had to be dead, or they would be there fighting at his side.
