…did you have the Executioner wear his helmet by request, or was it just because it looks so damn cool?•• He wears the helmet in the original story, so, since I have already drawn him without it, I thought I'd add it this time for variety. Also, yes, it looks cool!

As to the "Don Heck vibe", this was inked almost entirely with the PITT brush pen, and as I was doing it I was getting a strong Frank Springer vibe. Springer is one of the influences I try to push in my inks, and his line is not unlike Heck's. That may be what you're seeing here.(Incidentally, as I was flipping thru the issue, looking for costume reference, I assumed it was inked by Heck, but the credits say George Roussos inked it -- which must make it one of the most faithful jobs George ever did! I would never have guess it was his work!)

I love the job Heck did on the Hercules pinup (which if memory serves me, appears in that issue). And his pinup of the Avengers women? Well, that's what Heck does best!

Very nice. The final version of Quicksilver's head is a definited improvement. There is much to like here... lots and lots. The Mandarin stands out, but so many of these characters work so well when depicted by JB.

Me not having read my volume of Essential Avengers since picking it up a few years back, I kind of forgot about the Mandarin and Ultimo making their appearance in that annual. That's what you get for being a casual comics reader these days.

The inked version does not disappoint. Nicely done. Mandarian is the stand out for me.

Not everyone can pull off so much action in a single shot. Great job, JB!

Simply amazing. Marvel, wake the hell up and give this man Avengers, FF and Alpha Flight Forever. Or at least just wake the hell up. That'd be a fine start.

My favorite part is Mandarin's left hand.

I have an compulsive habit. Whenever I look at great many-Avengers drawings like this from John (or the great George Perez), the first thing I do is try to find the Wasp!
