On the matter of DD's rogues gallery -- I think part of the problem lies in the way people have long tended to call Daredevil "Marvel's Batman". It really wasn't until Frank Miller came along that the character began to define a strong identity of his own. And with "Marvel's Batman" in their heads, even subliminally, writers tended to come up with Batman style villains -- only lame ones. (Not surprising! We think of Batman as having a superb rogues gallery, but there are really only a handful of winners. The drop-off is pretty fast to the likes of Calendar Man, Killer Moth, Kite Man, the Mad Hatter, etc.)

Was Daredevil thought of as Marvel's Batman early on, John? It's interesting that Batman has the Joker, Penguin, and Scarecrow, while DD had the Jester, the Owl, and Mr Fear.

Some of Daredevil's early villain's have stood the test of time to but are B-listers at best (the Owl, the Gladiator, Stilt-Man, the Jester, Mr. Fear, the Purple Man, the Ani-Men, Nighthawk), but none were really exceptional and he had to borrow a lot of villains (Ox, Electro, Mr. Hyde, the Beetle, the Trapster, Dr. Doom) or depend on a lot of guest stars (Namor, Spider-Man, Ka-Zar, Thor, Captain America, Black Panther) early on. And yes, some early Daredevil foes were really awful - the Matador, Leap Frog, the Stunt-Master, etc - it's almost like Stan (and others who followed him) didn't know exactly what to do with him.

Purple Man sounds interesting.
Anyway, even most DD's latter-day villains aren't all that special: Bullet, the Wild Boys, Bushwhacker, Ammo, Shotgun.
Blackheart is perhaps the most memorable.

Purple Man was interesting...and put to good use with Dr. Doom in the Emporer Doom graphic novel. Even in the 80's/90's, Daredevil's arch-nemesis was the Kingpin...another borrowed villain.

Bullseye was a late addition to DD's rogues, and became one of Marvel's best nasty customers.

Keep in mind that, again, it took Frank to make something of Bullseye. Before that, the character was a Flash-style gimmick villain.

Holy mother of pearl! This is an instant classic! The Leap-Frog has never looked so good. It is commissions like this that make me wish JB had a loooooong on Daredevil. Heck a short run would be welcome. This one is easily in the running for best commission of 2010.
