After seeing this at full size, I get the Klaus Janson comment someone made earlier.

Sorry Mr Thomas, I meant after the published cover. I still think JB is a far better artist. I like Davis also, but his faces all look the same to me.

Absolutely stunning! I love Jean's face, the blacks on the figures... Please do not let slip the address of this commissioner, or he/she may be subject to a home invasion!
Edited to add: Didn't read the thread to see this is for Jeremiah. Congratulations! What a great way to celebrate your 30th!

Nice recreation, JB - love the shadows!!! Question - on a piece like thiswhere the characters are entering from the sides, do you still sketch out the full bodies for composition?

Question - on a piece like thiswhere the characters are entering from the sides, do you still sketchout the full bodies for composition?•• An easy one! No! I very rarely extend figures beyond the edges of the picture. This presented something of an annoyance when Marvel was lifting images of mine for spot illos in OHOTMU, and getting some other artist to "extend" the figures. Most times it produced a very awkward pose, as I had not drawn the original picture with any thought of what was going on outside the frame. As long as it worked INSIDE the frame, I was satisfied!

I was looking at the original cover and pondering just what was that made your art so attractive back then...even though the drawing is much simpler than the present version, the composition, the placement of elements like Scott´s fist is very nice.

I think Alan Davis' artwork is some of the greatest, most fluid comic art I have ever seen. But I'm going to have to say JB's art is beyonf belief...I'm quite sad to say the chief just doesn't quite get how good his stuff is. JB, please don't refute my point, sometimes you're a real meanie!
