Well JB beats Davis hands down in iconic comics and images, whatever it is that allows him to make those Davis hasn't been able master.

Interesting observation- as amazing an artist Alan Davis is, his artwork is NOT among those that is swiped or used as iconic images frequently, is it?

On the other hand, JB always seems to have images pop up in many mediums. Regardless, both artists are in my top five of all time favs.

Larry Hama once commented that the success of the Image boys was in large part due to what he dubbed "copiability". Sit down to copy/swipe a Liefeld or a McFarlane, to name but two, and you will likely succeed. Better, at least, than if you try to swipe Joe Kubert or Neal Adams. To copy those guys requires some artistic talent. To copy the Image styles, not so much.

Same here, to some extent. You're less likely to see Alan being swiped BECAUSE he is SO DAMN GOOD. And that makes his stuff hard to copy!

Alan Davis is DAMN hard to copy.

But Bryan Hitch started out precisely that way.

Bryan Hitch's work has developed quite a bit.
I wish he had been able to imbue his
drawings with some of the dynamic energy
found in Alan Davis' work.
