I love the hint of Batman's reflection in the Penguin's monocle.

I just have to chuckle, a thread beginning with a JB drawing, and then a Liefeld work. Like a major leaguer leading off, and a little leaguer brought in second.

Nice to see the "classics". Marvel and DC should at least hire you to draw non-comic stuff so the characters stay recognizeable. I was at Wal-Mart and looking through the sticker packs in the greeting card aisle and found a Superman one, ugh didn't look anything like him. Needless to say I didn't waste any money on it.

••

When I posted pages in the NEXT MEN thread I mentioned that I am trying something a little different there, but that I was going to hold off on discussing just what that was until you'd all had a chance to see a few issues of the book. I used the same "experiment" on this piece, so I'll likewise be holding off on discussing just what that is!

Hoo Boy!! I love it. These three are in for a beating. ;)

The facial expressions on them are pitch perfect.

Looking at the picture again, I note that there is also a reflection of Batman on the shine of the Penguin's top hat, too. Nice!

Sweet piece. It's nice to see an artist that can pull off emotions like you can, JB.

Love this picture, but it also makes me just a little bit sad. You used to be able to count on an image similar to this  when you picked up a Batman comic, and sadly that is not longer the case. Batman has strayed so far from its wonderful beginnings that a wonderful scene like this one would be out of place within it.

SER: When Frank Miller revamped Daredevil, he did a good job in making Daredevil distinct from Batman -- Daredevil was the guy who fought with martial arts and who had a lot of issues. His world was also grittier. YEAR ONE would have made a good Daredevil story with moderate tweaking. YEAR ONE, as a Batman story, though is missing something -- the larger than life sensibility I remember from the great Dick Sprang stories in the 1950s.

Question: Did you actually read those Sprang stories from the 50's before or after you had read Year One?
